What is required to book a date?

A: I love to meet with couples before they book if possible, to make sure we click (pun intended)! To reserve a date a deposit of $500 and a signed contract is required. The rest of the balance is due by the wedding date.

What kind of equipment do you use?

A: My main camera body is a Nikon D800, and I have two back-up bodies, a Nikon D600 and Nikon D40. I prefer shooting digital for weddings because of the speed it gives me on a wedding day, back-up memory card slots, and quality of images in low-light. My favorite lenses are my 35mm f1.4 and 50mm 1.8 lenses, but I also use the 24-70mm 2.8, 70-200mm 2.8, and a macro 85mm lens.

Will we receive the files?

A: Yes! Your Package includes a high resolution disc of selected .jpeg images and a print release that can be used to print the images for personal use. You also have permission to post the images online on your social media sites as long as you credit David James Photography.

What should we wear for our engagement session?

A:  The key is to capture who you are as a couple. The more comfortable you are, the better the photos will be. I will help you finalize outfits based upon the location of where we want to shoot. I wrote a blog a few years ago about my feelings on the importance of engagement photos. How many images will we receive? – I usually deliver 50-100 images from engagement sessions and 300-500 images from a wedding (depending on the hours of coverage). You receive the best, most memorable photos as determined by my discerning eye.

How long will it take to receive the images?

A: For engagement sessions it typically takes around 2 weeks for the edited images to be available. For weddings, the images are guaranteed to be delivered 30 days after the event. (They usually arrive much sooner!) I also post a preview of favorite images two to three weeks after the wedding so that the wait for the rest is a little easier!

How far in advance should we book?

A: I receive inquiries for weddings sometimes more than a year in advance, but every year is different and some months are more popular one year than the next. June has traditionally been my busiest month, and generally March-October are in high demand. If you find a venue or photographer you love I recommend asking the venue and photographer for a few open dates before you settle on one, so that you have a greater chance of getting both! But don’t hesitate to ask about my availability, even if you feel it is “last minute” or within the same year. I might just be available!
